Tree Planting Initiative
Project Overview
Our Tree Planting Initiative aims to increase forest coverage in Siaya County from the current 2% by planting 1,000 trees across the region. This project is a key component of our efforts to combat climate change and ecological degradation.
Project Activities
Establishment of Tree Nurseries
We're establishing 7 tree nurseries: 4 on youth farms, 2 in different schools, and 1 at the chief camp. These nurseries will provide a steady supply of seedlings for our tree planting efforts.
Tree Planting Day
We organize community events dedicated to planting trees, mobilizing volunteers, preparing planting sites, and providing guidance on planting techniques. These events help increase community engagement in reforestation efforts.
Training on Tree Care
We provide training to youth and community members on how to care for the planted trees, ensuring their survival and growth. This includes watering, mulching, and protection from animals.
Monitoring and Evaluation
We regularly monitor the growth and survival rate of the planted trees, making adjustments to our approach as needed to ensure the success of the initiative.
Expected Outcomes
- Increased forest coverage in Siaya County
- Enhanced carbon sequestration to mitigate climate change
- Improved soil conservation and reduced erosion
- Greater biodiversity and ecosystem services
- Increased community awareness and participation in environmental conservation
